In these shelter-in-place times full of travel bans and restrictions a weekend away can provide much needed break. Healdsburg is a great choice to enjoy wineries, good food, and a nice town overall.
Getting to Healdsburg
Healdsburg is riughly an 1.5 from San Francisco. It is northwest of Sonoma and most of the way is on highway 101.
Fun Fact
Healdsburg wasn't always a wine region. 50-60 years ago it was mostly a cattle raising region. There were farms, dirt, and cows. Today, it is completely tranformed into a wine region with high end wineries and restaurants. It is incredible how wine can transform a region.
Where to stay
In Healdsburg highly recommended staying in the square. The square has a great vibe and most importantly you can walk to dinner and wine tasting.
Healdsburg Inn
This hotel is right on the square, it has big rooms if you are traveling with little kids and breakfast included.
Where to eat
Campo Fina is a super fun place. It has a lively patio and tasty Italian food. Portions are big! make sure you share
I'm not generally a fan of Spanish restaurants in the US, but Bravas is pretty good. I really enjoyed their octopus, their tortilla, and lamb burger all in the cozy patio.
Good food, great coktails. Right on the square. This is a great place to grab a drink before dinner.
Healsburg Wineries
Reeves Wines
Reeves is my new favorite. If you like wineries like Scribe, you will love Reeves. It is a small reservation-only winery with a great outdoors and a cool vibe. I thought the wine is phenomenal and it is definitely a must visit. Make sure you make a reservation.
Banshee Wines
A long time favorite. The Banshee Pinot Noir always stands out. Banshee is a tasting room right by the square with cool vibes and great atmosphere. During covid they are serving in two small tables so it is recommended you call and make a reservation.
De La Montanya Vineyards and Winery
De La Montanya is a small family winery. You can only get their wines at the winery. It is a creative winery with a lot of different varietals. Also requires reservation.
Preston Farm and Winery
Preston is a one of a kind, specially with kids. This farm and winery provides a ton of entertainmant. Note that it is closed during due to COVID.
